If you are looking for a London escape room, The Haunted House is London’s largest, most immersive and best-reviewed escape room. Set over two floors inside an abandoned house you will have up to 90 minutes to escape from nine (thats right, nine!) rooms, of games, puzzles and challenges, to discover what happened to six paranormal surveyors who went missing inside this house almost twenty years ago.

THE STORY

Twenty years ago, six paranormal investigators, armed with state-of-the-art ghost hunting equipment, entered the infamous 43 Paradise Row – East London’s most haunted house – to discover the dark secrets which lurk within these blood-stained walls. What did they discover? We have no idea! They went missing that night and were never seen or heard from again.

This is London’s largest immersive escape room. Set across nine rooms over two floors you will have 90 minutes to complete a series of fun puzzles, challenges and activities to discover what happened to these six missing ghost hunters and finally lay to rest a mystery which has puzzled the ghost hunting community for more than two decades.

Scare level: 2 / 5 (The Haunted House is more of an investigatory escape room experience than a horror experience so you will love it, even if you are not usually a horror fan)
Physical requirements: The Haunted House is the largest London escape room, and you will be required to walk, climb stairs and climb down a ladder. In addition, there is a fun crawl tunnel, but any part of the experience can be avoided on request, so don’t let this put you off. There is a reason we are the best reviewed London escape room.
Location: Our London Escape room is a two-minute walk from Bethnal Green tube station on the Central Line.
Extra Time: We are the only London escape room to offer an ‘Extra Time Upgrade’. For a small fee, add an extra 15 minutes or 30 minutes to you booking to make sure you will complete the experience.
Free souvenir photo: We are the only London escape room which gives customers a free souvenir photo (the London Dungeon, for example, charges £15.00 for a single photo).

We do not offer refunds for cancellations or no-shows, but we may move your booking free-of-charge to another date/time with a minimum of 72 hours notice or (in the case of no-shows or cancellations within 72 hours of your booking) offer you reduced price tickets at £20.00 each to attend The Haunted House at another date/time. By placing your booking you accept these terms and conditions.
Please arrive at the venue exactly 10 minutes before the start time of your booking. If you arrive late, this may shorten the length of you experience as we need time between bookings to reset the house and always start on time; it is not fair on other customers who do turn up on time to have to wait to start their experience because an earlier group arrived late. Our venue is easy to find and we provide a helpful map on our homepage and in the email we send to you prior to the event; please avoid using Google Maps or City Mapper as these apps are not always reliable.
There is a bathroom inside the event, but this will only be accessible after your game has started, so please try to use bathroom facilities in advance of your arrival. If you are more than 15 minutes late, then you will be denied entry and asked to reschedule, in accordance with our terms and conditions.

HISTORY

The Haunted House is loosely based on the real story of the Luff Family, who met their tragic end in October 1937, in a murder mystery which continues to baffle the local residents of Bethnal Green, to this very day.

Will I still enjoy this even though I am not a horror fan?

ScreamWorks’ productions are popular among both horror fans and non horror fans. We give each of our productions a scare rating. For example, the Haunted House is a 2/5, because it is more of an investigative experience than a scary one. Almost everyone who comes to one of our shows, whether they eagerly booked the tickets or were dragged along by a horror fan, end up having a lot of fun and leaving us 5* reviews. Take a leap of faith. You are among friends and we will protect you – after all, we want you to be a repeat customer so there is no sense in killing you 😉

Can each member of my group pay individually?

Our minimum order for securing a booking is £135.00 (for the 90 minute experience) and £105.00 (for the 60 minute experience). If you are organizing a group booking but don’t want to pay up-front for all your friends, then purchase three tickets to secure the booking. In your order confirmation email you will be provided with a link which your friends can use to add another ticket to your booking. There is no difference in price whether you book all tickets now, or some now and some later.

What is the ‘Extra Time’ upgrade?

If you purchase Extra Time, then we will allow your group to complete the experience, even if you have run out of time (up to an additional 30 minutes for the 90 minute experience and 20 minutes for the 60 minute experience). You will be offered this upgrade at checkout, if it is available for your selected timeslot (it is not always available). What is the minimum age limit for the Haunted House?

We have set a minimum age of 13+ for this escape room, due to the nature of the set and storyline. However, this is not set in stone; we have had some younger players complete this escape room successfully, with their families. We do however insist that all players under the age of 16 are accompanied by at least one responsible adult (18+) and at a ratio of 1 adult to 7 minors. For example, if you wanted to book for 14 players under the age of 16, then we would require two paying adults to accompany the group. I want to book this event for more than 14 players, but it won’t let me add more than 14 tickets to the basket.

The Haunted House is the largest escape room in the UK and suitable for up to 48 simultaneous players. However, we require some notice to accommodate bookings of more than 14 players, and therefore have limited the number of tickets that you can buy on our website to 14. If you want to book this experience for more than 14 players email us at info@screamworks.co.uk and we will process your booking for you, manually.

We want to book for 8 players but we don’t want to be split up.

We are the only escape room in the UK which can allow up to 48 simultaneous players. Groups exceeding seven players will be divided into groups and pitted against each other in real time. As The Haunted House is a non-linear game, each group will complete the experience in a different order. For groups over 14 players, please email info@screamworks.co.uk in advance of making your booking.

Do you offer concession tickets?

Unfortunately, we do not offer concession discounts on our escape room experiences. However, from time to time we do offer discounts on last-minute availability. Sign up to our Last Minute Offers list, and we will notify you when a new discount is added. It doesn’t cost you anything to receive our email/SMS alerts and you can unsubscribe at any time. Are there any live actors in this experience?

The only human that you will come in contact with during this experience will be your Games Master, Heston Phoenix.

Can I reschedule my booking?

If you give us more than 72 hours notice, we will move your booking to another date/time, free-of-charge. For less than 72 hours notice or late/ no-shows, we cannot offer a refund but we can exchange your booking at the reduced price of £20.00 per ticket. Do you have a bathroom?

Yes, but it is hidden behind a fake picture frame, so if you want to use it, you will have to work out where it is for yourself… well, this is an escape room 😉 Please note that the toilet will not be available until your experience has commenced (approximately 10 minutes after you have arrived), so please plan accordingly. For health and safety reasons we cannot allow you to enter 43 Paradise Row before we have given you a full briefing and due to the site specific limitations of this venue, the only bathroom is inside the house.

I have a physical disability, is this event suitable for me?

We will do our best to make The Haunted House accessible to you, but would ask you to email us in advance of making your booking so we can discuss your access requirements.

I am pregnant, is this event suitable for me?

This experience does require you to be on your feet for 90 minutes and to walk, climb stairs, climb down a ladder and crawl through a tunnel. There are also a number of jump scares. Consequently, this experience may not be suitable for persons who are expecting. We would recommend that if you are pregnant you opt out of those parts of the experience requiring you to crawl through tunnels and climb down ladders. Inform our Games Master prior to commencing the experience, and they will take you via an alternative route. This will not affect the rest of your experience.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes with a good grip – trainers are perfect. Please avoid high heel shoes or any shoes which have a smooth leather bottom, like formal wear.

Where are you located?

We are located at 261 Paradise Row, E2 9LE. We are a two-minute walk from Bethnal Green underground station (Central Line) and a twelve-minute walk from Bethnal Green overground station. Click here to see a map which will assist you in finding the venue.

I am coming by car, where should I park?

Will I be touched?

There is one part of the experience where you may be touched, gently, by a gloved arm/ hand. If you want to opt out of this, then please inform the Games Master prior to entering the experience. To avoid any mistakes, we will remove this element of the experience for all of the guests in your group.

How scary is the Haunted House?

We consider this experience more fun than scary. Your mission is to discover what happened to the six ghost hunters who went missing in this house before you, so think of it more as a mystery/ investigation than a scare attraction. You will be given advance warning of all elements and can opt out of any activity without detracting from your experience. Relax, you will love it!

Can we get clues if we are stuck?

Yes. You will be given a handheld radio so you can contact the Games Master and his team at any time.

Can I buy gift vouchers for this experience?

Is this event suitable for corporate bookings?

Absolutely. In fact, as the largest escape room in the UK, we are the only operator able to accommodate up to 36 simultaneous players, which makes us an ideal choice for corporate teambuilding events. Click here for more information.

When should we arrive for our booking?

We require you to arrive exactly 10 minutes before the start time of your booking, no earlier and no later. We tend to sell out, especially at weekends, and so we enforce end times strictly. This means that if your booking is from, for example, 2pm to 3:30pm, then your experience will end at 3:30pm. It is therefore important that you arrive 10 minutes early so we can get you checked in and briefed, so you can start the event on time. If you are late, this will reduce the amount of time available to you. We cannot allow overruns for latecomers because this would impact negatively other customers, who do arrive on time for their bookings. We also ask you not to arrive early, as this can also impact negatively other customers’ experience of The Haunted House. If you do arrive early, please wait outside the venue. We will open the doors to you at exactly 10 minutes before the start time of your booking. We have a 99.9% success rate of starting shows on time, so be patient and trust that we will be there to greet you at the correct time. We are very easy to find, if you use the map below. We cannot be responsible for errors made by third party navigation apps like Google Maps or City Mapper.

HOW TO FIND US

The address of our venue is: ScreamWorks, 261 Paradise Row, E2 9LE. Our Main Entrance is underneath a railway arch, next to a BP petrol station. As you walk down Paradise Row from Bethnal Green underground station, you will pass a number of bars and restaurants on your left-hand side (Sagar and Wilde, Mother Kelly’s, Boom Bap Burger & Arepa). Continue on, until you come to a blue metal gate, which will be open. Walk through this gate, all the way down to the end, and you will find us.

We are a two-minute walk from Bethnal Green underground station (Central Line) and a ten-minute walk from Bethnal Green overground station.
